Easy selection here for best #16 ever, as Joe Montana was one of the best quarterbacks ever. ‘Joe Cool’ was one of his nicknames because he had an uncanny ability to stay calm in pressure situations and has 31 fourth quarter come from behind wins.
Montana also has four Super Bowl victories, earning MVP in three of them. He has the NFL record for most passes thrown in a row without an interception in Super Bowl history with 122.His 127.8 passer rating in Super Bowls isn’t too shabby either. Montana drove the 49ers 92 yards in the closing moments of Super Bowl XXIII that ended with a play we all know as ‘the catch’.
“What I have is recognition. The ability to see everything on the field. Position the other team to death. Keep the ball alive and keep it moving forward. Then, at the right moment, knock them on their ass. Own the field”- Joe Montana via profootballhof.com
Montana earned his fame with the San Francisco 49ers, but was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs to close out his 15 year career. Joe hung up his cleats after compiling 40,511 yards and 273 touchdowns to just 139 interceptions.
He became a first ballot Hall of Famer in 2000, after breaking numerous playoff records and winning two league MVP awards.
