Arguably the best quarterback to never earn a ring, Marino played his entire 17 year career with the Miami Dolphins. He did play in Super Bowl XIX, but the Dolphins were blown out by the San Francisco 49ers. Despite bringing the Dolphins to the playoffs in ten of his 17 seasons, Dan ‘The Man’ Marino never got the chance to play in the Super Bowl after his second season.
With 61,361 passing yards and 420 passing touchdowns under his belt, the nine time Pro Bowler was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005. Marino will be remembered as having amazing pocket presence with a rocket arm. He has won the league’s MVP, Comeback Player of the Year, and the Walter Payton Man of the Year awards. Dan Marino should also be remembered as the king of Monday night, as he still holds NFL records for yards, touchdowns and wins on Monday night. The number 13 has also been retired by the Dolphins.
“My father is the most passionately competitive person I know. If there’s one thing you can say about my father is that his competitive spirit matches his ability as a player.”-Daniel Marino, Dan’s son at the Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony via profootballhof.com
Marino has enjoyed a successful life outside of football as well. Dan has appeared in numerous movies, including Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Holy Man and Bad Boys II, as well as numerous commercials. He also owns The Dan Marino Foundation, that has raised over $22 million in autism research and The Dan Marino Center, a neurodevelopmental center specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of children at risk for developmental and psychological problems.
