Welcome everyone to the SMACKDOWN RECAP from August 30th, 2016 for The Scrum Sports! Tonight’s recap will not be as big and boisterous as usual but there are a few reasons for that. The show itself was not very good and I also had a lot of personal issues to deal with as well. On to the reason why were all here though.
Tonight’s episode began with The Miz talking about what happened on “Talking Smack!” last week with him and Daniel Bryan. After a few minutes, Dolph Ziggler makes his way out. They begin to fight over who’s basically been through more crap in the company with movies, and what they’ve done with, for and about the company. Dolph challenges him to a one on one fight to prove Miz is not scared. Miz gets angered and walks away anyway.
COMMERCIAL BREAK!
MATCH. 01: TAG-TEAM TOURNAMENT MATCH — (HYPE BROS. v THE VAUDEVILLIANS)
After a match that didn’t really last long but had a decent amount of spots, Hype Bros win with Zack hitting the “Hype Ryder”.
WINNERS VIA PINFALL: THE HYPE BROS.
After the match, there’s a interview in the ring with The Hype Bros. and they basically just saying they’re going to be the Tag-Team Champions at BACKLASH. We get an updated bracket for the tournament. AJ walking in the back saying hi to everyone. When he comes to Apollo Crews, he pretends he doesn’t know him. They have a spell off with C-R-E-W-S and how AJ is the face that runs the P-L-A-C-E.
COMMERCIAL BREAK!
NXT ad promoting Shinsuke Nakamura winning and then AJ’s music hits. He comes out, cuts the same promo from last week basically, Apollo comes out, they banter, Apollo said he asked Daniel Bryan for a match against AJ tonight and was granted it. And it begins… NOW!
MATCH. 02: SINGLES MATCH — (AJ STYLES v APOLLO CREWS)
They begin the match….
COMMERCIAL BREAK!
Considering most of the match happened in the commercial break, it was hard to get vested in it. But, in the end, AJ hit the Phenomenal Forearm and got the win.
WINNER VIA PINFALL: AJ STYLES
They announce Ambrose V Corbin for the first time ever…
COMMERCIAL BREAK!
When we get back, we see that Renee Young is at Heath Slater’s trailer in West Virginia. They introduce Heath’s wife “Beulah”, show Rhyno in the home and they have a really awkward interview in he kitchen/living room. I really believe you need to see this to believe it. Nice recap of Heath’s last month in the WWE.
COMMERCIAL BREAK!
Bray comes out. Disses Orton a lot. Tells him to run. Orton comes out instead. He talks about the voices in his head asking who Wyatt thinks he is. Wyatt fires back telling him he wanted him to be the predator but now he himself is the predator because Orton is damaged and weak. He then says at Backlash he’s going to cut Randy’s head off and mount it on his wall. Orton then says about his past physical scars but tells WyaTt to look deeper into his emotional scars and accepts the match at Backlash. Says he’s not afraid at all and goes into the ring to fight Bray but it goes black. We get a picture for a Women’s Tag-Team match and…
COMMERCIAL BREAK!
Come back from commercial break, Nikki on commentary. Recap of last Smackdown and Talking Smack when Carmella attacks her. They introduce the women in the tag match and continue to talk to Nikki.
MATCH. 03: WOMEN’S TAG-TEAM MATCH — (NATALYA/ALEXA v NAOMI/BECKY)
A lot of the match is taken away by a commercial break in the middle. Carmella attacks Nikki again and in the middle of it, Alexa rolls up Becky for the win.
WINNERS VIA PINFALL: ALEXA BLISS/NATALYA
After the match, Naomi and Becky go out and check on Nikki. Mauro, Otunga, and JBL discuss the situation at hand and then discuss The Headbangers and we see a video promoting them…
COMMERCIAL BREAK!
We return with some Curt Hawkins facts and then The Headbangers come out.
MATCH. 05: TAG-TEAM TOURNAMENT MATCH — (THE HEADBANGERS v HEATH/RHYNO)
Mosh and Thrasher haven’t changed their clothes since 1998. Nothing too much of note but Mosh broke open Rhyno the hard way, Rhyno gets the pin with the GORE! GORE! GORE!
WINNERS VIA PINFALL: HEATH SLATER/RHYNO
They hype up the win and we get them talking about the main event and, you guessed it…
COMMERCIAL BREAK!
We come back from commercial to see AJ Styles on commentary and some dude in the ring that says he’s “The Milkman” and he’s new to the WWE. He then strips down to his underwear… tighty whities and says he wants to fight someone. ANYONE! Kane’s music hits. Makes his way down and the guy in the ring is trying to put his clothes back on. Kane gets in the ring, chokeslam. Leaves. Baron’s music hits, he and Kane have a crossing of paths before Baron gets in the ring.
MATCH. 06: SINGLES MATCH — (BARON CORBIN v DEAN AMBROSE)
Dean makes his way out next. Pretty good match for a lot of it being in the commercial break. AJ tries to get involved on the outside, he gets taken out by Dean hitting Corbin and Corbin hitting him. A melee ensues, the match gets called off and some stupid stuff with AJ on the top rope straddling it after Ambrose knocks him off of it from doing the forearm. He literally shakes AJ’s hand, asks for and grabs his Championship and thats’s that. End of the show as Dean walks up the ramp. GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE!
