SummerSlam will be held in Brooklyn, New York on August 20,2017 at 7:00 PM ET. It will air on pay per view and on the WWE Network. As of the conclusion of Battleground and the 7/24 episode of Raw, this is the card so far:
Universal Championship — Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe vs. Braun Strowman (Fatal 4-Way)
Raw Women’s Championship — Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Bayley
SmackDown Women’s Championship — Naomi (c) vs. Natalya
The New Day’s win at Battleground was especially historic for Kofi Kingston. Sunday night’s win gave him the distinct honor of being the only member of a tag team to have held every incarnation of the WWE’s tag team championship since its inception in the 70s.
Ticket sales for Battleground were just short of sellout but it the event was considered to be a success, especially since it was a SmackDown event. WWE has been dropping prices in an effort to boost attendance.
It’s been four months since the Superstar Shakeup and there’s rumblings that could be another after SummerSlam. According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there’s talk that this roster change could involve sending one or two superstars from the main roster to NXT.
Braun Strowman allegedly ran into something that could terrify a lot of people, a pissed off mother. The incident is said to have happened July 17. Raw and GFW were held in Nashville on the same night and people from both promotions just happened to sample the nightlife after the conclusion of both shows. Braun was approached by Karen Jarrett for autograph at a bar for her son. Witness accounts are inconsistent but Braun was said to have been rude to Karen. Other versions say that both were at least a little buzzed. She then got angry and “cut a major loud promo” about Braun blowing her off and she threatened to tell her husband, Kurt Angle, about it. Braun apologized, offered to sign, and allegedly said he’d get on his knees and beg for her not to tell him. She then said that she was still going to tell him. As the story goes, Strowman eventually got on his knees and he begged her not to tell anyone in front of other WWE wrestlers. Karen then said that even if Kurt was not the father of her son, he should not act like that to a mother who was simply asking for an autograph for her son and Strowman agreed and once again apologized.
