August 19, 2018 was the date of the much anticipated Summerslam Pay Per View Show in Brooklyn. Here is the recap of how it all took place at Barclays.
SummerSlam Kickoff Show.
Andrade “Cien” Almas & Zelina Vega def. Rusev & Lana with an illegal pin
This mixed tag opened up the night and is interesting to note since it isn’t often we get mixed tag matches, let alone one to start a show. Not the greatest of finishes as Vega pinned Lana with the old foot on the ropes trick. Ref didn’t see it and they pick up the win. No interference at all by Aiden English as well.
Cedric Alexander def. Drew Gulak to retain the 205 Live Cruiserweight Championship
This match was a little better as Gulak and Alexander slugged it out for the 205 Live Championship. Alexander won on rollup on Gulak that started awkwardly.
The B-Team def The Revival to remain Raw Tag Team Champions
The B-Team got past The Revival in this one as Bo Dallas fell on Pete Dawson reversing the rollup he had on Curtis Axel for the win. Another lucky finish for the B-Team.
Seth Vs. Dolph. Smackdown Tag Tittles. Money In The Bank Match.
Seth Rollins curbstomps Dolph Ziggler to become Intercontinental Champ again.
The Intercontinental Title matchup of Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins kicked off the main event of Summerslam. Plenty of back and forth in this one, including a inverted superflex that Seth rolled into a sidewalk slam that got the crowd moving. Seth hit a Superkick and a Curb Stomp to recapture the belt back in a match that went almost 30 minutes.
The Bludgeon Brothers bring in the mallets, keep the belts.
The Bludgeon Brothers took on the New Day in the match afterwards for the Smackdown Tag Team Titles. Was actually a pretty interesting match until the Bludgeon Brothers decided to use the mallets to lose by disqualification. They still keep the belts however.
Braun Strowman makes squash work of Kevin Owens to remain “Monster In the Bank”.
In what will be the quickest match of the night, Kevin Owens took on and lost to Braun Strowman in a match where Kevin Owens was dominated in.
7 Time Champ. Style Retains. Miz Cheats.
Flair wins three-way matchup to become Smackdown Champ.
The Women’s Smackdown Title was next up which was a three way matchup between Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch and Carmella. Charlotte Flair hit the Natural Selection on Becky Lynch to become the 7 time womens champ. There will be more of this down the line as Lynch took out Flair after the match by throwing her over the German announce table.
AJ Styles snaps on Samoa Joe to retain.
AJ Styles for his matchup at Summerslam had his Smackdown title on the line against a familiar old foe in Samoa Joe. This Brooklyn crowd chanted “TNA” in homage to their old matchups throughout. This one was for me the match of the night as each seemed to have an answer for every move and submission. Samoa Joe taunted AJ’s wife in attendance which put Styles in a fury on the outside. Going as far as to hit him with a chair at ringside, causing the DQ.
Miz defeats Bryan using brass knuckles
The Miz and Daniel Bryan squared off next that played off their longstanding feud. This was a good one and as expected the Miz by cheating. Maryse sitting in the crowd handed to him brass knuckles which he later used on Bryan for the win.
Demon Sighting.Shinsuke retains. New Raw Women’s Champ.
Demon Balor beats Constable Corbin quickly.
Finn Balor came out in the demon gear and made quick work of Constable Corbin who had no idea what he had signed up for. The entrance for Finn coming in was longer than the match itself.
Shinsuke Nakamura retains U.S. Title.
Shinsuke Nakamura faced off against Jeff Hardy for the Smackdown United States title. Big moment in this match happened when Hardy took a Swanton Bomb off the side of the ring apron and missed. From there Shinsuke was able to setup the Kinsasha for the pin.
Rhonda Rousey is the new Raw Women’s Champ.
Rhonda Rousey makes Alexa Bliss tap out to become the new Raw Women’s Champion. Definitely a historic moment in what was a very disappointing match.
A New Universal Champion.
Reigns finally beats Brock Lesnar via pinfall to become the new Universial champ.
Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns wrapped up the card at Summerslam for the Universal Championship. Braun Strowman made his presence know before the bell that someone was going to “Get Thes Hands”. The crowd was as hostile as you would anticipate for this one. Lesnar took out Strowman with a chair outside, only to be meet with a spear form Regins on the inside for the pin and the new Universal champion.
That wraps up this card from Summerslam. Next up on the pay per views is Hell in a Cell.
