What a difference a week makes.
The always brash, never lacking for confidence Enzo Amore found himself on the John Laurinitis “Best of luck in your future endeavors” list yesterday.
Enzo has always been what is termed as a “heat magnet”, and it’s something that has often helped his character as it relates to garnering a fan reaction.
Whether it be getting tossed off the RAW brand bus by the likes of Roman Reigns, or getting buried in singles matches to his former partner, Big Cass, people seemed to rally behind Enzo.
However, there comes a point where one has to wonder whether the character is just that, or whether or not it’s a reflection of the man himself.
Not to try the now former WWE superstar in the court of public opinion, or to cast judgement on a man unfairly until he’s tried in a court of law by a jury of his peers, Enzo really put the WWE in a bad spot.
Enzo was accused of sexual assault and this is something that should ALWAYS be treated with the respect it deserves. Many are calling the accuser into question and as I just stated, that is not my job, or the job of the Scrum Sports. Let everything play out, but as it stands, that will play out with Enzo watching from the sidelines.
He was already in deep water and whether or not Enzo is innocent or guilty, this is another terrible, terrible look for the superstar and WWE had had enough.
They are incredibly active in social issues and anti-bullying campaigns in the modern age and having a Cruiserweight Champion having these weighted allegations levied against him? No thanks.
Enzo didn’t reveal the fact, according to what is being reported, to the WWE brass, and that was it. I’ll allow you to siphon through the news and read the sordid details for yourself. There were heavy narcotics allegedly involved and as stated earlier, sexual assault claims were levied.
The fact that he didn’t even bring this to the WWE’s attention was the final nail in an already weighted coffin for the former talent and people are going to have varied opinions on the subject as it stands.
This was the right move for the WWE here, and showing that they are taking not only the accusations seriously, but the fact that it wasn’t even brought up? They seemed to have no alternative but to cut ties with the former champion and they will look to move the Cruiserweight title and the future of the division to a respected talent.
Cedric Alexander, Drew Gulak, Hideo Itami, there is a multitude of talent clamoring for the opportunity to take the weight of the division on their shoulders and bring it to dizzying heights.
Let’s hope that we see strong, respectable talent who not only embrace the role, but embrace the respect for and the stewardship for the brand as a whole.
