This past weekend’s tapings of Impact Wrestling saw Bobby Lashley make his exit from the promotion.
Lashley joins an ever growing number of stars that decided to move on to greener pastures. And if the dirt sheets are to be believed, more will come.
Lashley’s final match was against one of Impact’s most recent acquisitions, Brian Cage. Cage is most known for his tenure in Lucha Underground. Cage defeated Lashley earlier in the TV taping. The former Impact World Champion demanded a rematch against Cage. Cage defeated Lashley in the second match. When Lashley exited ringside, he bid the crowd farewell, bowed to them on the entrance ramp and went to the back.
Lashley first arrived in Impact Wrestling in 2009, after a four year stint in World Wrestling Entertainment (where the jury is out on if he was utilized properly). After departing a year later, he returned to the Impact Zone in 2014. Lashley split time between MMA (Strikeforce and Bellator to name a few promotions) and racking up gold in TNA. He won the X-Division Championship, the King of the Mountain and nabbed the World Heavyweight Championship on four different occasions.
Impact has lost several key talents over the past several months. Ethan Carter III, James Storm, Chris Adonis, as well as several others, have either asked for their release or declined to renew their contract with Impact. News outlets such as the Wrestling Observer have reported the financial issues that parent company Anthem Sports took on when they became the owners of Impact. It has been rumored that Anthem has chosen to allow these high money contracts expire as a cost-cutting measure.
Do you believe Anthem Sports is making the right call by letting these top talents go? And is losing even more of Impact’s weekly viewership worth the cost?
