We’re less than 24 hours away from WWE’s Super Show-Down event taking place in Melbourne Australia.
If you want to watch it live, you’re going to have to get up pretty early. The show is scheduled to start at 5am Eastern Time. Given that nothing too Earth shattering is expected to go down at this event, I assume most folks will just sleep in and watch whenever they wake up. Regardless of when you tune in, here is the final announced card for the event:
Triple H w/Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker w/Kane
WWE Title: AJ Styles© vs Samoa Joe
Daniel Bryan vs The Miz with a future WWE title shot on the line
Smackdown Womens Title- Charlotte Flair© vs Becky Lynch
Smackdown Tag Titles- New Day© vs The Bar
John Cena and Bobby Lashley vs Kevin Owens and Elias
Ronda Rousey and the Bella twins vs Riott Squad
The Shield vs Strowman, Ziggler and McIntyre
Cruiserweight Title Match-Cedric Alexander© vs Buddy Murphy
Naomi and Asuka vs the Iconics
Mae Young Classic 2
Here are your Round 2 results for this week:
Match 1: Though she spent much of the match seemingly on the losing end of a beating, Toni Storm eventually eeked out a victory over Lady Godzilla Hiroyo Matsumoto with a surprise roll up.
Match 2: Mighty Kacy Catanzaro showed off a lot of her gymnastics prowess, but it wasn’t enough to overcome powerhouse contender Rhea Ripley.
Match 3: Florida’s own Lacey Lane defeated Brazil’s Taynara Conti with a Crucifix.
Match 4: A master class of a match between two of the most experienced veterans in the tournament resulted in Meiko Satomura claiming victory over Mercedes Martinez.
The other half of Round 2 will air next Wednesday featuring Mia Yim vs Kaitlyn, Tegan Nox vs Nicole Matthews, Io Shirai vs Zeuxis, and Deonna Purazzo vs Xia Li.
Injury Report
According to the announcers on Raw, Liv Morgan has been medically cleared to compete as scheduled in the 6 woman tag at Saturday’s Super Show-Down event. It’s only been one week since Morgan suffered a concussion when Brie Bella accidentally kicked her in the face during a match. Having personal experience with head trauma, this seems a bit soon for a return to the ring. Personally, I wouldn’t even be comfortable having her take that long flight all the way to Australia so soon after a head injury. Every situation is unique though, and hopefully they aren’t rushing Liv’s return.
WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne might be dealing with a serious injury. He was scheduled to appear at a show for Destiny Wrestling this weekend, but they have posted the following announcement, “due to a severe injury (WWE will announce it in few days)
Pete Dunne will not be able to make it to this weekends tour in Canada.” Hopefully we’ll have an update on his condition for next week’s report. In the mean time, we wish Pete all the best on a speedy recovery and look forward to his triple threat match against Ricochet and Adam Cole (BAY BAY) that’s set to air on NXT next Wednesday.
WWE Network
Big changes could be on the way for the WWE Network in 2019. Vince McMahon is said to be personally heading up the work on a tiered pricing structure. Details are still unknown of course, but based on some of the surveys the company has sent to fans we could be looking at 4 different tiers. They would starts with a free tier that only allows you to watch a certain amount of content each month and includes commercials. There could also be a $4.99 plan that only included the “Big 4” PPV events, a $9.99 plan that would essentially be the same as it is now, and a $14.99 plan that would include extra content from independent promotions. The recent meeting between WWE and Impact officials may also have been about including the TNA library in these updates. We’ll keep you updated as we know more.
Kofi Rocks
I believe that the actual milestone took place about a week or two ago, but Kofi Kingston has now held tag team gold more days than anyone else in history. The previous record holder was Billy Gunn with 953 cumulative days as a tag champion. Across multiple reigns with not only the New Day but also CM Punk, R-Truth and Evan Bourne Kingston has now held tag team gold for over 954 days and counting. Congratulations to one of the most consistently entertaining performers of his generation.
Assorted News and Notes
After finally receiving his official release from a WWE contract and remaining mostly silent about future plans, Neville has finally reappeared. Going by his pre-WWE name of PAC, he’ll be returning to the ring for the first time in over a year with the Dragon’s Gate promotion. Best of luck to a uniquely talented performer who just seemed to get lost in the WWE machine.
A reunion of the Evolution faction has been advertised for the upcoming 1000th episode of Smackdown. Triple H, Ric Flair, Randy Orton, and Batista are all set to appear on the milestone show. I wonder if this is really the best time to promote the all male Evolution faction when they also have the all female Evolution PPV event fast approaching?
As revealed in the first trailer this week, Braun Strowman has a role in a new Sherlock Holmes film. The new film is a comedic take on the classic detective starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as Holmes and Watson. It’s unknown how large Strowman’s role in the film will ultimately be, but in the trailer he can be seen fighting with the heroes in some sort of wrestling or boxing type ring.
Regular WWE interviewer and host Charly Caruso has a new gig. She’ll be taking her skills to ESPN part-time as a contributor to SportsCenter. For now it appears she’ll do double duty working for both companies.
PPV Event Plans
Last, but not least, here are the plans we currently know for all of the events coming up after Super Show-Down. The WWE has a busy schedule of events this fall, and I’ll do my best to keep you updated on their cards.
Oct 28: Evolution-All women’s PPV
Shayna Baszler has invoked her rematch clause for the NXT Womens Title and will get that match against current champion Kairi Sane at Evolution.
While it had been widely thought the NXT UK Women’s Championship would be among the belts defended at this event, they still have yet to begin airing the footage they’ve filmed for that brand. They’ve played promos for the UK show during other Network shows but haven’t yet announced plans for when they’ll begin airing it. With this in mind, I think the UK women’s roster will still appear. They just won’t acknowledge that they’ve already crowned a champion. If I had to guess, a weekly NXT UK show will get the post-NXT spot that’s currently occupied by the MYC after that tournament wraps.
Announced:
Alexa Bliss vs Trish Stratus
Mickie James vs Lita
NXT Womens Title: Kairi Sane© vs Shayna Baszler
Expected:
Raw Womens Title Match, Smackdown Womens Title match, NXT UK Womens title match, Final match of MYC2
Rumored:
Maryse vs Brie Bella
Nov 2: WWE Crown Jewel from Saudi Arabia
Announced:
Universal Title Triple Threat: Roman Reigns© vs Braun Strowman vs Brock Lesnar
Rumored:
Tag Match: HHH & HBK vs Taker & Kane
WWE Title 4 way: Aj Styles vs Samoa Joe vs Daniel Bryan vs Miz
Nov 17/18: NXT Takeover and Survivor Series
The first of many rumors to come for Survivor Series suggest the possibility of a Team Corbin vs Team Angle match with control of Monday Night Raw on the line.
