At the end of this season, Lucha Underground will lose one of its biggest stars. Rey Mysterio’s contract, which was for three seasons, will wrap up at the end of this year. The multiple time title holder had talks with Global Force Wrestling. With GFW still trying to wash off the stench of the former TNA, a mega star of Mysterio’s caliber could help them do just that. Lucha Underground signed the majority of its talent to seven seasons. However, another star had discussions with Global Force. John Hennigan, who went by John Morrison in WWE and is the current champion of Lucha Underground, just had his first match in Impact Wrestling.
WrestleZone first broke the news this past weekend. Impact Wrestling just became a touring brand again. The promotion hasn’t done house shows in over half a decade. Their first live event outside of the Impact Zone in five years took place in Staten Island. Many of the near 500 people in attendance stood in awe when it was announced what the main event of the evening would be. Low Ki, Ethan Carter III and Bobby Lashley competed in a six-man tag team match. Their opponents were Moose, James Storm and John Hennigan.

Taya Valkyrie, who is dating Hennigan, also had a match earlier that evening. She competed in a triple threat match against Sienna and Allie. This likely gave away a potential Hennigan appearance at the event. However, this does leave more questions than answers.
Are the appearances of Hennigan and Taya at a GFW event part of the same cooperative deal that GFW signed with Mexican based promotion AAA? Once Hennigan’s contract is up, will he renew with Lucha Underground? Will GFW be able to lure the mega star into the fold with a sweet enough contract? Or will Hennigan look to once again ply his trade with World Wrestling Entertainment? We will likely get answers soon enough.
