As one infielder comes off the DL, another takes his place as the Rays try to salvage a game in New York.
Rookie infielder, Christian Arroyo, was placed on the 10-day DL on Saturday with an oblique strain. Following the 4-1 loss to the Yankees, the Rays welcomed back shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria back off the disabled list. He had been recovering from a hamstring injury for nearly a month.
The 29-year old Hechavarria was hitting .273/.303/.341 in 36 games before going on the DL. He had 2 home runs and 16 RBI in those games.
Arroyo, 23, is hitting .264/.339/.396 with a home run and six RBI in 20 games this season since being called up back on May 16th.
With the “youth movement” afoot, it’s likely Hechavarria’s days are numbered in Tampa Bay.
