The Tampa Bay Rays have had 13 road games this year. Their record (3-10) away from Tropicana Field is a point of concern.
The Rays’ second road trip of the season was equally forgettable as the first. After going 1-6 while in New York and Boston, the Rays headed to Baltimore and Toronto to face the remaining AL East foes. It’s no secret that the Rays are much better at home than on the road. But at some point they will need to improve on their home-road splits.
Orioles Hold Down the East
Rays Up:
- Tim Beckham had his first career multi-HR game (both off Dylan Bundy). Fifth among MLB shortstops with four HR’s.
- Bullpen threw 12.0 innings (2.00 ERA) allowing only three earned runs. Including 10.2 IP by bullpen arms last Tuesday

Rays Down:
- Alex Colome: 1.2 IP – 2BB – 2 ER in extra-inning loss on April 26.
- Defensive miscues and errors continue to hurt. Look at this wacky play…

Blue Jays Take Advantage
Rays Up:
- Austin Pruitt has turned it around in a big way. First Rays pitcher this season to record three wins.
- Home runs still the key source of offense. Four HR on Friday accounted for five of their seven runs
- Chris Archer had his best outing of the season (7.1 IP – 4 H – 1 ER – 5 K) on Sunday.
Some quick notes on @aus13tin:
▪️First Ray to 3 wins
▪️First AL rookie with 3 April wins since Masahiro Tanaka (’14)

Rays Down:
- Colome struggles again:
First nine appearances: 0 ER in 10 IP
Last two appearances: 4 ER in 2 IP
- Only two runs scored in last two games.
- Inconsistency and unproven arms are causing Cash to juggle his options. Team ERA ranks 4th in MLB (3.40) from innings one-through-six – Ranks 17th (4.28) from seventh inning on.
- Steven Souza Jr could miss time with a hand contusion. He is however, in the lineup for Monday nights game.
What’s Next:
The Rays are in Miami for a two game set starting on Monday. The two teams then travel to Saint Petersburg for a pair of games at Tropicana Field.
