Oregon State pitcher Drew Rasmussen headlines the list of unsigned Rays draft picks.
By now, everyone is aware that the Rays made a pretty big splash during this season’s MLB Draft. The team was able to land two-way collegiate star, and Golden Spikes Award winner Brendan McKay.
McKay was selected as his Louisville Cardinals club prepared for the College World Series. The Rays used their second pick to select another CWS-bound pitcher, Drew Rasmussen from Oregon State.
Ultimately, neither player took home a championship, and McKay was the only one that reached a deal with the Rays. Of the 41 players selected by the Rays this season, 10 of them went unsigned. Here’s a list of the players that did not reach an agreement..

Breakdown of Signed Players
Of the 31 players that they were able to lock-up, only one of them came from the high school ranks. Second round selection, RHP Michael Mercado from Westview HS in California agreed to terms on June 20th. The 6-4 pitcher signed for just over $2.1M, which was almost $500,000 over the slot-value.
Five players came from the Junior College level.
Four signees came from the ACC.
LHP Andrew Gist (Georgia – SEC) was the only player to sign from a Power-5 outside of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
