An old friend returned to the organization Wednesday as the Rays brought back catcher, Curt Casali. In parts of four MLB seasons, all with the Rays, Casali is a .199 career hitter. He did hit 10 home runs back in 2015 in just 38 games with an impressive .898 OPS.

Back in December, Casali signed with the Angels, was released, then signed by the Rangers, and was then released this week. The Rays were quick to scoop up the 29-year old California native and bring him home where his career began.
It’s all about depth
He adds familiar depth to not only the MLB squad if needed, but Durham, as well.
The current catching depth chart behind Wilson Ramos and Jesus Sucre looks to be Casali, Xorge Carrillo, Johnny Monell and Adam Moore. Though there is a good chance one of the later three is cut with the signing of Casali.
