Manager Knocks SS for Wardrobe Choice

Not everyone is going to agree with your sense of style, I get it. But when your manager doesn’t agree with your wardrobe, that can be a problem.

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Tim Beckham donned a fresh pair of sky blue spikes before Thursday night’s finale against the visiting Miami Marlins. It’s no big secret that professional athletes like to jazz it up at times. Cleats, gloves, sleeves, you get the idea.

I’m all in favor of adding a little flair, especially since many critics will argue that baseball is the most boring of the major sports. Plus, if you’re looking to spice things up a bit – I’d rather see guys modify the color of their cleats than see them launch a 25 foot bat-flip every time they hit a home run.

I know Goose Gossage probably doesn’t want to see either. He certainly doesn’t want to see any more bat-flips. Not after he went off on Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista last year, calling him a “[bleeping] disgrace to the game.”

You’re never going to make everyone happy, that’s the way life is.

“I told him if he’s gonna wear those, he better do something tonight”

After his teams’ 5-1 win over the Marlins, Rays manager Kevin Cash voiced his opinion on Beckham’s choice of footwear.

He did more than just a little something. The former first round pick crushed two 400+ foot home runs, and singled handedly lead his team to victory. Beckham’s four RBI tied a career-high – set previously on July 28, 2015 against Detroit.

Obviously Cash was having fun with his shortstop, and his comments weren’t serious, but with a performance like that, maybe Beckham should push the wardrobe-envelope more often.
