First trip to the Midsummer Classic for Rays DH
In his fifth year in MLB, Corey Dickerson is an All Star for the very first time. Not even in 2014 when he was playing in Colorado and hitting .312 on the year with 24 home runs in 131 games did he make the NL roster. “Mr. Consistent” as we shall call him, has found himself not only on the AL roster, but the starting designated hitter for Terry Francona‘s squad. In 2017 he is among the AL’s leaders in batting avg (.318, 5th), extra base hits (41, 5th), and hits (104, T-1st).
Dickerson is the lone representative from the Rays unless first baseman, Logan Morrison, gets voted in with the AL’s “Final Vote.”
“LoMo” has earned it.
Morrison, in his eighth season in MLB, has also never been an All Star. However, in 2017, he’s among the leaders in all of baseball in home runs (24, T-3rd). Among AL first basemen, he’s among the elite, as well. First in home runs and walks (47), second in RBI (57), and third in OPS (.945). A case could also be made that he’s played Gold Glove defense. In 77 games at first this year, he’s made just two errors.
“Final Vote” ends at 4 PM tomorrow.
The 2017 All Star Game takes place July 11 from Marlins Park in Miami.
