Tampa Bay Rays’ star pitcher takes time to reach out to prospect in the minors.
This past July the Tampa Bay Rays made several key moves at the trade deadline. The majority of those moves were made to help the team win this year, by adding big-league pieces. One move, however, sent former No.1 overall pick Tim Beckham to the Baltimore Orioles for a young prospect.
On July 31, just seconds before the 4pm deadline, the Rays sent Beckham and his .259/.314/.407 slash line to the division-rival Orioles.
The player received in return was 18-year-old (now 19) right-handed pitcher Tobias Myers. The Winter Haven, FL native was drafted by the Orioles in the 6th Round of the 2016 draft.
Now a member of his ‘home-team’, Myers has the opportunity to share experiences with his idol – Chris Archer.
On Monday night, Archer reached out to Myers.
Today my idol @ChrisArcher22 reached out to me and it opened my eyes to a lot of success I’ve had, but I have a lot of work to do????????#thankgod

Archer Responds
It’s always a nice feeling when someone that you respect and admire as a role model reaches out and offers their support and words of encouragement. It’s not something that we see or hear a lot about these days.
Keep working man. Look forward to meeting you in person https://t.co/xi6Na5Sxnl

Given the current situation of the Rays, winners in two of their last eight, its nice to see Archer reach out, encourage, and provide perspective to a young prospect hoping to join him in Tampa Bay.
