RHP Matt Andriese heads to Arizona for two prospects as the Rays stay busy on Wednesday.
Andriese, 28, is 3-4 with a 4.07 ERA (59.2-IP, 27-ER) in 27 apps (four starts) with the Rays this season. The trade marks the end of a four-year tenure in Tampa Bay. Originally drafted in 2011 by the San Diego Padres, Andriese was traded to the Rays in January 2014 in a package that also included Logan Forsythe and Brad Boxberger, both of which have also moved onto other teams.
He finishes his career with the Rays going 19-22 with a 4.30 ERA in 99 games (48 starts).
The return
The Rays get 25-year old catcher Michael Perez as well as 21-year old RHP Brian Shaffer. Perez is batting .284/.342/.417 with nine doubles, six home runs and 29 RBI in 58 games this season with Triple-A Reno, including .308/.357/.423 against right-handed pitching. Shaffer is 7-5 with a 2.70 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 19 starts for Class-A Kane County this year.
The Rays plan to designated catcher Adam Moore for assignment making room for Perez to join the team in Baltimore and make his MLB debut.
