This weekend the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will open their 2017 rookie minicamp. While the Bucs 2017 draft pics will be in attendance, other players have been invited to attend as a tryout.
The one name that pops off the rookie minicamp roster of 56 players is former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper who comes to camp as a tryout player.
Amongst those taking part in Bucs’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis this weekend: former
Eagles’ WR Riley Cooper.

You’ll remember Cooper was shown on video at a country music concert making a racial slur. Cooper last played in the NFL in 2015 and wasn’t quite the player he had been just two years earlier. In 2013 Cooper had career highs in receiving yards (835) and touchdowns (8). Adding a veteran like Cooper could bolster the Bucs receiving group which added Desean Jackson in free agency.
While Cooper will be taking part in rookie minicamp, he is only there on an invite basis. No contract has been offered to the veteran wide receiver yet. Even if he is not offered a contract if he isn’t signed the Bucs do have Adam Humphries and 2017 draft pick Chris Godwin.
The former has drawn rave reviews from Calvin Johnson who said on Instagram that Godwin is “A Coaches Dream”.
With the moves the Bucs made in the 2017 Draft, one could foresee the Bucs having one of the best receiving groups in the NFL. Jason Licht has given his young quarterback Jameis Winston every weapon imaginable to continue his rise as an elite NFL player.
Recently NFL.com bumped the Bucs up one spot (From 10 to 9) in their offseason power rankings following the NFL Draft.
Fans should be extremely excited for this upcoming season at Raymond James Stadium. Jameis looks ready to throw for yet another 4,000 season in pewter and red.
