On August 1st, the Rays designated Adeiny Hechavarria for assignment after having no luck trading him before the deadline. He cleared waivers and today, was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates for minor league RHP Matt Seelinger.

Hechavarria, 29, joins former Rays teammates Chris Archer and Corey Dickerson in Pittsburgh. Dickerson was traded in the spring and Archer at the deadline last week.

Seelinger, 23, will head to Class-A Bowling Green. He’s 1-3 with a 3.03 ERA in 32.2 innings so far this season at Class-A West Virginia. He also struck out 52 batters in 28 games. He was selected by the Pirates in the 28th round of the 2017 June Draft out of Farmingdale State College.

Over parts of two minor league seasons, Seelinger is 1-4 with a 2.44 ERA (62.2-IP, 17-ER) and 12.78 strikeouts per nine innings ratio, with 11 saves in 12 opportunities.
