Mathieu Joseph has a two-goal, three-point night but the Lightning drop a tough one to the Senators at home.

TAMPA, FL – The Tampa Bay Lightning came in with the NHL’s best record. The Ottawa Senators came in tied for 13th in the Eastern Conference. At the end of three periods, it would be the home team taking the loss and snapping a four-game winning streak despite a career night from their rookie winger.

Big night for the rook

Joseph would finish the evening with two goals and an assist. His first came with the Bolts trailing 2-0 to get them on the board mid-way through the first period. His second came late in the second period to extend the Lightning’s lead 4-2.

Brayden Coburn scored earlier in the period to get Joseph his only assist of the game.

Hedman returns with a vengeance

Think Victor Hedman missed being on the ice? The reigning Norris Trophy winner returned to the lineup tonight in a big way. With the Bolts trailing 2-1 early in the second period, Hedman scored his third goal of the season going coast to coast on the power play. Goalie, Andrei Vasilevskiy tallied his fifth career assist on the goal.

Ottawa owned the third

After four unanswered goals by the Lightning, it was time for the Senators to return the favor. The third period was dominated by the visiting team in almost every aspect of the game. The tone was set early in the period with the Bolts up 4-2 when Brady Tkachuk pulled his team to within one.

Three more goals by Colin White on the power play, Ryan Dzingel, and then Mark Stone in the final seconds of the game would put away the Bolts, 6-4.
