Dickerson heads to Pirates for RHP Hudson and prospect, Gray

The Corey Dickerson saga is over. He’s now, officially, a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

On Thursday, it was announced a trade had been made between the Pirates and Rays for DH/OF Dickerson. The Rays, in return, received veteran RHP Daniel Hudson and minor league infielder Tristan Gray as well as $1M cash. Back on February 17th, the Rays had designated the 2017 All Star for assignment after acquiring new first baseman, C.J. Cron from the Angels.

He heads back to the National League after spending two seasons in Tampa. Dickerson set career highs virtually across the board in 2017. His 150 games, 84 runs, 166 hits, 64 extra-base hits, 27 home runs, 288 total bases and 51 multi-hit games were all career-bests.

Another vet in the ‘pen

Hudson, 30, went 2-7 with a 4.38 ERA (61.2-IP, 30-ER) in a career-high 71 appearances in 2017, his only season with the Pirates. Over parts of eight seasons in the majors with the Chicago White Sox (2009-10), Arizona Diamondbacks (2010-16) and Pirates (2017), he is 37-30 with a 3.98 ERA (573.2-IP, 254-ER) in 270 appearances (59 starts). He had Tommy John surgery back in 2015 while in Arizona.

Another infield prospect in the mix for the future

Gray, was selected by the Pirates in the 13th round of the 2017 June Draft out of Rice University. In his first professional season, he hit .269/.329/.486 with 12 doubles, six triples, seven home runs and 37 RBI in 53 games with Short-A West Virginia.
